1962

Farquhar Bethune Insurance (FBI) founded by John (Jack) Farquhar as a personal and commercial insurance agent and precursor to ENCON.

1964

Introduced professional liability coverage for architects.

1969

Introduced professional liability coverage for engineers.

1970

FBI established “engineered construction” facility, creating the ENCON name, to underwrite property and liability insurance for construction risks.

1980

Sold retail operations and became a 100 per cent underwriting management operation.

1983

Developed directors and officers program and errors and omissions (E&O) coverage, further broadening product base of the company.

 

1984

Business units from William M. Mercer and Marsh & McLennan were merged to create Marsh & McLennan Group Associates. This new company later evolved into Seabury & Smith Ltd.

 

1985

Special Risks department created to respond to growing demand for E&O products.

 

1986

Acquired by Victor O. Schinnerer, a U.S. underwriting management company and wholly owned subsidiary of Marsh & McLennan Companies Inc., a leading risk and insurance services firm.

 

1994

ENCON Insurance Managers Inc. and Seabury & Smith Ltd. merged operations. This expanded ENCON’s product offerings to include group and retiree benefits.

1999

ENCON’s foray into selling an environmental product covering underground and above ground storage tanks (TankGuard®), which was underwritten by ENCON on behalf of AIG Environmental®.

2000

Developed technology insurance program.

2001

Retired the name Seabury & Smith and rebranded ENCON Group Inc. with new visual corporate identity.

2007

Introduced property and crime coverage for architects and engineers as well as for errors and omissions and information technology risks. Also, introduced critical illness insurance for group benefits clients.

 2009

Introduced new ENCON Environmental Liability program, including products for contractors and owners or operators of storage tank systems. 

2010 Introduced Environmental Package Insurance, combining Commercial General Liability, Pollution Liability Insurance for Contractors, and Errors and Omissions Insurance, for contractors and consultants in the construction industry.
