Senior Underwriter, Group & Retiree Benefits

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Underwriter in our Group & Retiree Benefits division.  The successful candidate will provide outstanding technical support in the Group & Retiree Benefits division.   

Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical and underwriting support with respect to affinity and small group market programs.
  • Works effectively with Sales Representatives, Plan Advisors and various internal clients to provide quotations on prospective business and renewals for existing business.
  • Conducts analytical analyses on group data, on an ad-hoc basis, to assist in product development and profitability initiatives.
  • Assists in the monitoring of claims trends and developments, identifying areas of concern regarding loss ratios, risk trends, or other discrepancies.
  • Assists with the renewal of affinity programs and small group pool including analysis of experience, negotiations with insurer, administration, and preparation of regular financial reports.
  • Assists in the maintenance of positive insurer relationships for the benefit of our clients and our company
  • Acts as a resource to junior underwriting staff; coaching, mentoring, and providing technical guidance
  • Performs other related duties as required


Qualifications

  • Requires a post secondary education in math, business administration or related discipline with at least 5-7 years of progressive work experience in a Group Benefits environment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of group insurance and underwriting, both new business and renewal experience, is required.
  • Experience managing a portfolio of small business would be an asset.
  • Highly proficient in Excel and Microsoft Outlook.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively function in a team environment.
  • Must be able to operate effectively and possess a positive attitude in a fast paced work environment. 
  • Must be a detail oriented and analytical individual with a mathematical competency. 
  • A life license and designations such as CEBS are desirable.
